DEAFinitely Inclusive

Setting up ready for climbing

In partnership with UK Deaf Sport we are currently working towards achieving a DEAFinitely Inclusive quality mark.

Our staff have been Deaf Awareness trained by the wonderful Dexy at Community ID and we have developed different visual techniques for giving instructions and keeping everyone safe.

We can offer safe and fun sessions for groups of adults, children or families on a variety of activities including; Canoeing, Kayaking, Bellboating, Sailing, High Ropes, Climbing, Rowing, Mountain Biking and Orienteering.

We are currently looking to find funding for a portable hearing loop so that we can support more people at our centre.

Unfortunately none of our staff are yet to have formal training in British Sign Language (BSL) so if your group requires an interpreter you must provide your own or during booking we can arrange for an interpreter to be present at an extra cost.

Here at Shadwell Basin we hope to develop strong links with deaf and hard of hearing groups in the future including the possibility to start a regular club of outdoor adventurous activities.

Young people who are hard of hearing and are confident in participating without and interpreter are very welcome to join our integrated youth club sessions.

All participants must be able to swim to attend in water based activities.
