Our trips offer an exciting opportunity to test your skills, spend time with your friends, discover new places and learn about new environments and cultures. We regularly organise day trips and week long residentials away from the city. These are a great way to use the skills learnt here at Shadwell youth sessions and discover the real outdoors. Trips will develop skills further and have an impact on your personal development too, especially building confidence and self-esteem.
Attending sessions regularly will help you on your pathways journey and you will gain essential skills leading to assessment ready for these trips below.
Email requests will not necessary secure your place as these need to be recorded by payments at Youth Club.

This is a Blue and above Pathways level trip which will give you an experience in climbing on real rock. The aim of the trip is to introduce rock climbing skills and or develop these further depending on your experience. Register at Shadwell at 8.30am – Return by 4.30pm. Usual Youth Clubs Subs apply.
This is a Blue and Red Pathways level trip which will introduce journeying by Canoe and learning basic navigation, looking after your partners and equipment and working as a team. Register at Shadwell at 9.30am – Return by 4.30pm. Usual Youth Clubs Subs apply.
This is a Blue and above Pathways level trip. The blue group will walk for longer and be introduced to mountain biking in a forest environment. The Red and Horizon group will complete a 5k trail developing intermediate skills along the route. Register at Shadwell at 8.30am – Return by 4.30pm. Usual Youth Clubs Subs apply.
This is a joint Youth Club and DofE walking trip which will introduce and develop map reading skills and route planning. Register at Shadwell at 8.00am – Return by 4.30pm. Usual Youth Clubs Subs apply.
Here you will be guided and trained in the real outdoors on what it takes to complete a journey on your own in accordance with the DofE syllabi. Then you will complete a 2 day/3 day Practice Expedition lead by yourself with support where needed. Register at Shadwell on the 3rd at 6.00am – Return on the 7th by 8.30pm. This is an Integrated Youth Club Trip introducing you to sailing under supervision in Dinghy’s on the Colne Estuary. It will be a very exciting experience to feel like you are in open seas. If members of the regular Youth Club are interested in the trip you will need additional sailing experience and train at Shadwell for the competent helm award. You will stay in a large house with dinning and kitchen area and separate dorms for boys and girls supervised by staff in staff dorms. You will need to bring a packed lunch for when you arrive to have on route and the cost of the trip will include all other food for the weekend, travel and accommodation. Register at Shadwell on Saturday 22nd April at 8.30am and return on Sunday 23rd at 5.30pm.
This is a Blue and above trip to experience and develop sailing skills on tidal waters. You will need a large packed lunch and plenty of drinks and water for a days sail. Register at Shadwell at 8.00am – Return by 4.30pm. Usual Youth Clubs Subs apply.
This is a joint Youth Club and DofE walking trip which will develop accurate map reading skills and micro navigation. For DofE members this will be the last opportunity to practice before your final assessed expedition, you can also pick up borrowed equipment on this day such as cooking equipment, rucksacks, tents etc. Register at Shadwell at 8.00am – Return by 4.30pm. After camping the first night the assessment begins the following morning, 2 days for Bronze and 3 days for Silver. This is where you will walk on the routes you have planned whilst being assessed in accordance with the DofE syllabi. This is the final assessment please be prepared and ready. This trip is our annual summer multi activity camping trip which will include; Kayaking / Canoeing, Walking, Climbing and Mountain Biking. The activities are set at an intermediate and advanced level therefore you will need to have completed the Pathways Blue level and be training for Red or have completed the Red and be training on the Horizons in the activities set for the trip. There will also be night walks and an overnight Bivi. Our campsite is situated on the banks of Ullswater Lake on a farm with views of the stunning lake and the surrounding mountains. The cost of the trip will include travel, accommodation, activities and food. This is a great opportunity to use the skills learnt at Shadwell in the real outdoors.
The dates above allow for travel and a nights camping prior to the expedition. This is the gold expedition and will take place in Canoe on a 4 day self sufficient journey with 3 nights camping whilst on route. After the journey there will be a plan made to possible join the summer residential on Ullswater. Arrive at Shadwell at 6.00am on the 26th August and Return to Shadwell on the 1st September at 8.00/10.00pm.See DofE page for further details.
This is a trip where kayaking takes place daily on a moving water river. The rivers will be chosen at a later date and we will use barn style accommodation.
