The Centre has a long history of encouraging and supporting young people from black and ethnic minority backgrounds to gain new skills and access opportunities to training and employment. Our work with young people focuses on building confidence and self esteem, improving communication and leadership, helping young people to become the best they can be.
Our commitment to positive action on equality has seen great results with a partnership with the Outward Bound Trust, The Lindley Educational Trust and The North Face. This programme, The Right to Explore, works with young people from black and ethnic minority backgrounds, to provide a pathway into employment in the outdoor activity sector. The first group of young leaders spent an intense week with Outward Bound in the Lake District and went on to mentor young people from local schools through their first experiences in the outdoors.
Advancing diversity in the outdoors will make for a kinder, more connected world. We partner with the Outward Bound Trust to support young people living in city environments get access to the outdoors.
