Ways to help

Volunteer

Whether you come to us as an individual or through your company, you are invited and welcome to help us as a volunteer member Shadwell Basin. You will gain new skills and could get qualifications in sailing, rowing or kayaking that will be with you wherever you go in the future.

We are always looking for committed volunteers to come and help us deliver our activities, maintain the centre and fleet and to help others.

There are four main areas you can assist us with (or feel free to assist with all four!)

  • Water Activities – Kayak and Canoe coaching, competent fixed seat rowing coxes, powerboat drivers, etc.
  • Fundraising – Organise fundraising events and research funding opportunities or take part in our rowing and fundraising challenges or write grant applications for us.
  • Maintenance – Help keep our fleet and centre ship-shape by cleaning, painting and general DIY – all skills welcome!
  • Driving – Help us to drive a minibus for youth residential (anyone with a D1 licence or UK licence before 1997)

Support from companies

Supporting Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activity Centre is a unique opportunity for your business.

We work with companies of all sizes to develop a tailored programme.  We know that all companies are different and that means each relationship will be too.

What’s unique?

The impact a company’s support will have is tangible, demonstrable and far-reaching.  We work with over 30 schools, many charities and have a youth/community programme, most of which need support.  Over 3000 children every year experience adventure, with more support we can increase that number dramatically.  And it makes a real difference.

We will communicate support by companies on our website and inform the community through regular newsletters and press releases to the local press.

Your business can take part in fundraising events, do a volunteering maintenance day, or just use our centre for a fun day. We have host of experienced, qualified staff to lead your business on activities, facilitating team-building events, rewards and hospitality.

Fundraising Activities

Organising your own fundraising event is fun and rewarding and helps us give a child a better chance in life, through adventure.

To give you some ideas: Michal and Natalie Madera raised money for the centre doing a circumnavigation of the UK per Sea Kayak. Others have raised money doing the gruelling 125 miles long Devizes to Westminster race, and a Sailing Club member ran the Marathon to raise funds for the centre.
