Annual Meeting

i Dec 4th No Comments by

Thank you to everyone who came to our Annual Meeting and Presentation evening on 30th November. It was really great to see so many people from the Shadwell community there to support the event, there were 118 people who attended!

Part of the evening was a celebration of all the achievements of the youth club members over the past year, including award presentations.

The six winners of the Jack Petchey Achievement Awards were recognised and received their certificates and medallions. These awards are voted on by the young people and recognise all kinds of achievements, from supporting others on their journey, to succeeding in personal challenges.

Trophies and medals were also presented to the winners from the annual Shadwell Youth Challenge. This event has been running since 2001 and gives many young people their first taste of competition. There are three age categories for males and females in each of the competitions: kayak sprint, slalom, distance and speed climbing. This year there were over 90 competitors taking part and it was wonderful to see so many of them receive their awards. Thank you to Niamh from SRC Infrastructure who presented the awards.

Members of the Adventure Coach Training Scheme were applauded for their achievements in gaining Royal Yachting Association Dinghy Instructor awards and British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor awards. These young coaches have already started their journey in passing on their skills and we are very happy to welcome them to the staff team.

To finish off the evening a film of the activities throughout the year was shown and this will be available on our Youtube channel shortly.

If you couldn’t make it this year, please do look out for the notice of next year’s meeting and come along to join us.
