Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activity Centre has successfully secured £47,270 in grants to renovate its outdoor climbing wall of twenty years including £1,600 towards inclusion programmes.

Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activity Centre has been awarded £18,200 by one of the generous funders, the London Marathon Charitable Trust

Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activity Centre has been awarded £16,600 to renovate its Outdoor Climbing Wall and £1,600 for a disability climbing programme by the London Marathon Charitable Trust as part of The Trust’s long term commitment to capital projects which inspire local communities to get active and take part in sports and exercise.

Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activity Centre will invest the funding to completely renovate its Outdoor Climbing Wall. It will also add on a new climbing face and have adapted climbing for people and young people with disabilities. The new wall will have three faces with six ropes areas ranging from very easy to very hard grades.

Mike Wardle, Centre Director said, ‘we desperately needed our climbing wall of twenty years renovated. This is a fantastic opportunity to create a modern and challenging facility for all, but especially the young people and those with a disability who want to get into the sport of climbing’.
The work will take place in May 2019 and on average will allow 200 users a month to take part in the sport of climbing.

Since 1981, The London Marathon Charitable Trust has awarded more than £68 million in grants to more than 1,200 projects in London and other areas where London Marathon Events Ltd organises events. For more information, visit www.lmct.org.uk
