Rowing Challenge 2023

The parents of Shadwell Basin’s Youth Group, together with members of Tower Hamlets Canoe Club and Shadwell Sailing Club are undertaking a joint fundraising challenge to raise £8,000 towards the running costs of Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activity Centre’s Youth Programme. 100% of all donations received will go directly to the programme.

The Youth Programme is 80% subsidised in order to ensure that it can be as inclusive and accessible to as many local children and families as possible. Demand for our services continues to outstrip our capacity and we have a waiting list of over 90 young people. Unfortunately we are limited by the capacity of our current operating budget to expand our provision.

Over the last couple of years we have held rowing challenges on the River Thames to help in our fundraising efforts to maintain and grow the Centre’s youth provision, for which we are incredibly grateful. A weekly £4 youth club place costs the Centre approximately £18 in real terms when operating costs are taken into account. Examples of the costs of replacing equipment such as buoyancy aids and kayaks can be seen here on our giving page.

The route of this year’s rowing challenge will be Shadwell Basin to the Thames Barrier and back, and will take place on Sunday 9th July.

If you would like to take part and commit to fundraising towards the overall target please sign up here, where you will be asked to provide your contact details.

We will then be in touch with all Rowing Challenge volunteers to provide more detailed information about the day and how to create a personal fundraising page linked to the Challenge page.

If you work for a company that is able to match-fund your contributions you will be able to use your fundraising donations page to provide the matching information.

If you are not able to take part in the rowing challenge yourself, but know someone who would like to, please email info@shadwell-basin.org.uk or share the link above to the sign-up form with them.

We’d also love it if you could help raise awareness of the work of Shadwell Basin and the rowing challenge with anyone you think would be interested in supporting us via social media or by word of mouth.

Thank you for your support!
